Donore Area Sustainable Community (DASC)
Donore Credit Union are happy to share the news that we have launched a local initiative known as the Donore Area Sustainable Community (DASC). This group is dedicated to playing its part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the quality of the natural environment in in this part of Dublin 8 by working together with community groups and residents.
The Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) initiative is a funding and support programme, which helps communities to work together to become energy-smart and more sustainable. In doing so, Sustainable Energy Communities aim to use less energy by improving efficiency within the community (e.g. upgrading insulation, improved lighting and heating systems), incorporating renewable energy (e.g. by installing solar panels, generating community energy) and adopting smart energy technologies, such as smart controls.
A SEC can include a range of different energy users in the community such as individual households, sports clubs, school, community centres, local businesses and churches. By setting up a SEC we have access to mentors and supports from the SEAI and potentially other government agencies and local government supports. This is an exciting initiative but also a long-term project.
We are currently in the process of setting up a committee consisting of local people that can provide input to the DASC and together we will work on the mission to make our community more environmentally friendly and set an example for other areas in Dublin and across Ireland.
Together we can do more for our community.
