- National Identity Card ( of a Foreign Country );
- Signed Garda ML10 with photo attached;

In exceptional circumstances ( in cases where the above could not be reasonably expected) , the following may be considered:
- Government department correspondence with PPSN recorded
- Instrument of a court appointment (such as liquidator or grant of probate)

- Pension travel pass or social welfare card issued by the Department of Social Protection
- Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) Card
Note: All documents must be original and valid. Student Cards , Travel Passes and Work IDs are unacceptable as proof of identity.
In the case of accounts being opened on behalf of minors ie persons below seven years of age the POI of the account beneficiary ie the parent or guardian or third party opening the account must be sought along with the minor’s Birth Cert or Passport .
A person opening an account on behalf of a minor must have the defacto consent of the parent or legal guardian to do so as their POA and POI are required if not already members and where such information is not on file.
The attention of a third party opening an account on behalf of a minor should be drawn to the fact that they can only make lodgements to the minor’s account and that on reaching the age of seven or where the child can make receipts that the minor assumes full control of the account at this time unless opened in joint name.
For proof of address ( any 1 of the following):
- Correspondence from the Revenue Commissioners or Department of Social Protection ;
- Correspondence from a Local Authority;
- Bank Account Statement, e.g. bank, credit union, building society, credit card company;

- Home , Motor or Health Insurance correspondence;
- Any other standard ID documents which contains a current address and is not being used to verify name.
In exceptional circumstances and only in cases where the above could not be reasonably expected the following may be considered:
- Address verification (in writing, signed and on headed paper) from a reputable 3rd party; i.e., employer, school, college, money advisor, solicitor, priest, care-home or shelter manager, probation officer, government office or local authority official
- Search of a commercial agency which can confirm address
- Examination of a local telephone directory or available street directory
Note: All documents must be original and not more than 6 months old – ideally 3 months .
In the case of accounts opened on behalf of minors, where there may not be documentation directly in their name , reliance on the POA of the parent or guardian will be made where such documentation and the minor’s birth certificate links them by name. In cases where this link is unclear through name change at either end, address may be verified for the minor by seeking written confirmation from a local school or parish record authenticated on headed paper as outline above.
The membership process takes approx. 5 minutes and involves the prospective member nominating an individual in the case of their death as well as lodging the minimum shareholding of €10 and an entrance fee of €1.
